GGS Programme29 September 2026
How we adapted the GGS programme to older adults' different abilities
Older adults aged 65+ are a highly diverse group. That's why the programme has five modules and a seated or supported variant for every exercise.

Older adults aged 65+ differ greatly from one another in physical fitness, balance, mental ability and need for support. The Music-Movement-Memory programme has therefore been designed to be modular and adaptable.
Five modules for different groups
Module A: Active and creative ageing – for independent, active older adults; 8–15 people, 45–60 minutes.
Module B: Safe movement with rhythm – for older adults with early movement limitations; 6–10 people, 40–50 minutes.
Module C: Rhythm, memory and movement – for older adults at increased risk of cognitive decline; 5–8 people, 30–45 minutes.
Module D: Supportive therapeutic music-movement programme – for more vulnerable participants; 1–5 people, 20–40 minutes.
Module E: Together in rhythm – for socially isolated or less included older adults; 8–15 people, 45 minutes.
Initial assessment of the group
Before starting, the facilitator carries out a brief assessment of the group: whether participants can stand safely, how well they follow instructions, and how much support they need. This informs the choice of module and level of difficulty.
Adjustments during the session
every exercise has a seated or chair-supported variant
instructions are short, clear, demonstrated and repeated when needed
the tempo and volume of the music are adapted to the group
individual breaks and help from the institution's staff are available
The pilot confirmed that these adjustments are exactly what matters: the programme was well received both in a club for active older adults and in care homes with more vulnerable users.
